AI agency in Dubai: seven questions to ask before you pay a dirham.

Every second agency in Dubai added the words artificial intelligence to its homepage this year. Very few of them can show you an agent that answered a real customer on WhatsApp this morning. This article is for the owner or manager who has to pick one and does not want to learn the difference the expensive way.

What you actually find when you search

Type the Arabic phrase for AI agency Dubai into Google from a phone in the UAE and look at the first page. Most of it is not agencies at all: a government prompt-engineering programme, a Dubai Chamber challenge, the Dubai Future Foundation, news about a new AI platform. Below that sit two agency pages. One is a general digital agency that lists AI next to branding and social media. The other is a consultancy page that reads like a tools catalogue: model names, frameworks, protocols, infrastructure, security acronyms, most of it left in English inside the Arabic page.

Neither page answers the question you came with. You did not search because you wanted to know which framework an agency prefers. You searched because leads are going unanswered after 6 pm, because two people spend their mornings copying WhatsApp messages into a sheet, or because a competitor's customers get a reply in a minute and yours wait until tomorrow. The right agency starts from that problem and ends with a system running on your accounts. Everything else on this page is about telling the two kinds apart.

An AI agency versus an agency that added the word

A real AI agency sells a result you can count: conversations answered, bookings made, hours removed from a person's week, positions won on a search your buyers type. The AI is the method line in the proposal, not the headline. An agency that only added the word sells the opposite: the tool is the headline and the result is a paragraph of adjectives. You can hear the difference in the first ten minutes. Ask what will be different in your business on day 30 and listen for a number, a dashboard or a person who will no longer be doing a task. If you hear a demo instead, you are talking to the second kind.

The second sign is where the work is done. One of the agencies on that first page states plainly, in its own words, that its team works from Canada and that the page does not mean it has a Dubai office. That is honest, and it is also a fact you want to know before you sign, because a WhatsApp agent for a Deira car showroom needs someone who has read a thousand Deira WhatsApp conversations, not someone who has read a thousand pages about them.

The seven questions

Ask these in the first meeting, in this order. A good agency enjoys them. A weak one changes the subject.

  • Show me one agent that is answering a real customer right now. Not a demo on your laptop: a live account, with today's date on the screen. If every example is a prototype, the agency has never been through the part where real customers write things nobody planned for.
  • Who owns the accounts when we are done? The WhatsApp Business number, the domain, the hosting, the dashboard, the data. The only acceptable answer is: you, in your company's name, from day one. If the agency owns the number, leaving the agency means losing the number.
  • What does it cost after handover, per month, and what moves that number? An agent has a running cost that depends on how many messages it handles. An honest agency tells you the formula before you sign, not after the first invoice.
  • Will it speak the way my customers speak? Ask to see the agent reply in the Arabic your customers actually type, and to switch when a customer writes in English. Formal Arabic from a translation tool loses a Dubai customer in the second message.
  • What happens when the agent does not know? The right answer is a clean handover to a named person, with the whole conversation attached, within a set time. The wrong answer is that the agent always knows.
  • How will we both know it worked? Ask which numbers get written down before the work starts and read again on day 30: conversations answered, reply time, enquiries, bookings, search positions. No baseline, no proof.
  • Who is actually doing my project, and where do they sit? Not the person in the sales meeting: the person who will read your last 200 WhatsApp conversations and write the agent. If that person has never bought anything in Dubai, your agent will sound like it.

What it should cost

Nobody on that first page publishes a price, and there is a fair reason: an agent for a clinic with four doctors and an agent for a real estate office with forty agents are different jobs. But a range and a rule are possible, and you should insist on both. The rule we use: for most Dubai businesses a WhatsApp agent costs less than one junior salary a year, with the monthly running cost tied to the number of messages. The payback test is just as simple. If your team answers more than 30 conversations a day by hand, the agent pays for itself in the first month, because the first month is when the unanswered evening enquiries start getting answered.

Two things should be in writing before any money moves: the scope, meaning what the agent will and will not do on day one, and a fixed price that does not move after signature. Hourly billing on an AI project is a way of charging you for the agency's learning curve.

Where an AI agency pays back first in Dubai

The pattern is the same across the city: any business where the customer arrives on WhatsApp or Instagram and a human has to answer by hand. Real estate offices, clinics, car showrooms, restaurants with reservations, home services, gyms. The first agent in each of these does three things: it answers within a minute in the customer's language, it asks the three or four questions that tell you whether this person deserves a call, and it books the appointment, viewing or consultation straight into the calendar. Everything after that, follow-ups on day one, three and seven, review requests, renewals, is a second project built on the first.

If your business is larger, the same logic scales into what we call AI departments: a customised set of skills that does the work of a function, such as the finance desk or the executive assistant, priced per department and agreed in writing. The questions above do not change. Only the size of the answer does.

Prepare three things before the meeting

The seven questions work better when you arrive with your own numbers, because an agency cannot promise a result against a baseline it has never seen. None of this takes more than an hour.

  • Export your last 200 WhatsApp conversations, or simply keep the phone with you. The agency should want to read them; if it does not ask, that tells you something.
  • Write down today's numbers: how many conversations a day, how long a customer waits for the first reply in the evening, how many of last month's enquiries booked. Rough is fine. These are the numbers you read again on day 30.
  • Decide who on your team owns the agent. One named person who reads the dashboard, corrects the replies and takes the handovers. An agent with no owner drifts within a month.

How we answer the seven questions ourselves

We wrote the list because we wanted to be measured by it. Our agents are built from your real conversations: the last 200 WhatsApp chats show us the questions, the objections and the tone. The agent is written in Arabic and English at the same time, tested against those chats, and then put on a share of your live messages before it takes all of them. Every account opens in your company's name. You see every conversation in a dashboard and correct the agent in plain Arabic or English. The scope and a fixed price are written down before anything starts, and on day 30 we read the numbers next to the ones from the audit. The full week-by-week version is on the AI agents and automation page.

And because proof is the whole point, we are honest about ours: the site is new, the client cards on it are labelled as fictional until real clients replace them, and our Google reviews are being collected the same way we collect them for clients. We publish our own search positions every month next to our competitors'. Judge us by that page, not by this one.

The cheapest way to find out which kind of agency you are talking to, including us, is the free audit: send your website or WhatsApp number and within 48 hours you get a short recorded video of where the hours and leads leak and which fix pays back first. Then ask the seven questions.

Questions buyers ask

How much does an AI agency in Dubai charge?

Almost nobody publishes a price because the jobs differ, but you should get a fixed written price after a short audit. For most Dubai businesses a WhatsApp agent costs less than one junior salary a year, with a monthly running cost tied to the number of messages. Refuse hourly billing.

What is the difference between an AI agent and a chatbot?

A chatbot follows a fixed menu and gives up when the customer writes anything else. An agent reads the message, answers in the customer's language and dialect, asks qualifying questions, books into your calendar, writes the lead into your system and hands over to a named person when it should.

Does the agency need to be in Dubai?

The person writing your agent needs to know how Dubai customers write on WhatsApp, in Arabic and in English. Some first-page agencies state that their teams work from abroad. Ask where the person who will read your conversations sits, and ask to hear the agent in your customers' dialect.
